Why students may be interested

The dog film festival Sydney students have been waiting for is here and it’s the perfect antidote to assessment burnout and endless screen fatigue.

This is an easy, low-pressure way for Sydney university students to unwind, reconnect with friends, and enjoy a shared cinema experience just minutes from campus.

The Top Dog Film Festival World Tour returns to Sydney with a globally curated program of short films celebrating the bond between dogs and people. Screening at the historic Ritz Cinema in Randwick, this touring festival showcases independent filmmakers from around the world, with stories spanning adventure, rescue and companionship. It’s a growing favourite among animal lovers and a refreshing alternative to mainstream cinema.

The Ritz Cinema sits in the heart of Randwick, easily reachable by the L2 Randwick light rail and multiple bus routes from the CBD and Central Station. It’s a short trip from UNSW and surrounding student areas, with cafés and eateries nearby for a pre-screening bite.

What to expect

  • One screening only. This is a single-session event, so there’s no second chance to catch it later in the week.
  • Global short films. Enjoy a curated 2+ hour program from independent filmmakers across the world.
  • Accessible venue. The Ritz actively welcomes patrons with access needs, making it an inclusive night out.
  • Great for groups. A relaxed, PG-friendly outing ideal for unwinding with friends between study sessions.

Spots are limited per session, so early booking via the official link is recommended.
