Why students may be interested

Struggling to find the motivation (and the running buddies) to get moving before your Monday lectures even start each trimester?

The Run Club gives KOI students a free, social way to build a fitness habit, meet new people outside the classroom, and kick off the week with more energy for lectures and assignments – no gym membership or experience required.

Darling Harbour was once a working dock and rail yard before its transformation into one of Sydney’s most iconic harbourside precincts, redeveloped ahead of the 1988 Bicentennial celebrations. The Village Green at Darling Quarter has since become a popular gathering spot for locals, workers, and visitors. The Run Club taps into Sydney’s growing community fitness culture, where free, trainer-led group sessions have become a popular, low-cost alternative to the gym, particularly among busy university students juggling study and social commitments.

Darling Quarter sits right at the edge of the CBD, an easy 15-20 minute walk from Central Station, or a short trip on the light rail to Convention Centre. The session is completely free, with no membership or booking fee – all you need is a good pair of running shoes and a bottle of water.

What to expect

  • Free weekly sessions every Monday from 7am to 8am, running 3 August to 5 October.
  • Trainer-led workouts with warm-ups, drills, and a different route through Darling Harbour each week.
  • All levels welcome, including complete beginners – no prior running experience required.
  • Meet on Village Green South, Darling Quarter, right on the water.

This free session runs weekly for the full ten-week block (3 August – 5 October), with turnout on the day subject to weather and season. For the latest updates, weather advisories, and full details before you head down, see the official event link below.
