About this event
[T226 Week 6 & 8]
The KOISS Coding Club invites KOI IT students to participate in the Java CodeLab Challenge, a two-session coding event designed to develop practical Java programming, debugging, logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Delivered through HackerRank, the event gives students an opportunity to practise solving programming problems in a structured and competitive environment, while developing skills that can be valuable for technical interviews and future careers in IT.
Session 1 – Orientation & Practice | Week 6
The first session provides students with an introduction to the competition format and rules. Students will become familiar with the HackerRank platform, review key Java programming concepts and complete practice problems to prepare for the main challenge.
Session 2 – Java CodeLab Challenge | Week 8
The second session is the main coding competition. Students will put their skills into practice through two timed Java challenges:
What to expect
- Fix the Broken Code – identify, debug and correct errors in existing Java programs.
- Write Java from Scratch – develop Java solutions to programming problems within a set time.
Solutions will be assessed automatically through HackerRank’s testing system, including hidden test cases.
Prizes & Recognition
Students will compete for the following prizes:
- 1st Place – $100
- 2nd Place – $30
- 3rd Place – $20
All students who participate in the Week 8 challenge will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Competition Requirements
- Java only – all solutions must be written in Java.
- No AI tools – AI assistance is not permitted during the challenge.
- Individual participation – students must complete the challenges independently.
- Timed challenge – all participants must follow the allocated time limits.
- Limited places – registrations are subject to computer-room capacity.
Places are limited, so students are encouraged to register early.
