Why students may be interested

Ever feel like you’re missing out on real Sydney experiences beyond lectures and assignments?

This festival connects Sydney university students with authentic cultural, historical, and networking experiences across the city.

The Australian Heritage Festival is one of the country’s largest community-driven cultural celebrations, running annually and showcasing Australia’s rich history, diverse communities, and built heritage. Coordinated by the National Trust of Australia, it features hundreds of events across NSW. From First Nations storytelling to historic site access, the festival offers rare insights into places and stories often overlooked in everyday city life.

Events take place across Sydney’s CBD and surrounding suburbs, with many within easy reach of Central Station and key city landmarks. Costs vary, but a large number of activities are free, making it ideal for students balancing a budget while exploring the city.

What to expect

  • Guided tours Access historic buildings and hidden Sydney landmarks not usually open to the public
  • Cultural events Experience First Nations storytelling, performances, and exhibitions
  • Networking opportunities Meet locals, historians, and professionals across various industries
  • Flexible program Choose from free and ticketed events across multiple locations and dates

Many events have limited capacity and require advance booking. See official link for full program details and registrations.
