Why students may be interested

A major exhibition by contemporary artist Christopher Kulendran Thomas. This exhibition brings together experimental painting and multi-channel video installation, exploring how visual culture, media and memory intersect with historical events.

The central work in the exhibition is Peace Core (sphere) (2024), a collaborative video installation produced with Annika Kuhlmann. This work consists of a rotating sphere of screens using a custom AI algorithm to continuously re-edit archival American television footage first broadcast on the morning of 11 September 2001. It reflects on how media shapes collective perception during moments of profound global impact.

Alongside this video installation, the exhibition features a series of expressionistic paintings informed by neural network processes and hand-painted interpretations. These works consider under-documented historical events and the legacies of power and representation in global contexts.

Artist Profile:
Christopher Kulendran Thomas is of Eelam Tamil descent and has developed a body of work that engages with artificial intelligence, colonial histories and the circulation of images within global systems of power. His practice merges traditional and digital mediums to provoke reflection on the political and cultural dynamics that shape contemporary life.

Accessibility:
The venue provides access for people with mobility and access needs.
